Military Academy Application Tips

Helpful tips for applying to any of the military academies:

  • Military Academies in the U.S. offer an excellent option for students who are interested in serving their country and receiving a quality education at the same time.
    • Students at these institutions typically receive free tuition, room, and board as well as a small stipend for expenses.
    • All 5 of the undergraduate academies have highly selective admissions.
    • All require at least 5 years of service upon graduation.

  • Juniors interested in attending military academies, applying for ROTC, or other military scholarships need to watch deadlines very carefully!
    • The process for seeking a nomination to one of the academies begins early in your junior year of high school.

    • You can access information about all 5 service academies from their websites.
  • In addition, many have excellent summer programs which give prospective applicants experience of what daily life for a cadet would be.
    • These programs are highly competitive, so speak with your counselor for further information to make sure you are prepared.
