Course Selection

The AP Program offers college-level courses for students while they are in high school. At Chaparral, a student can take their first AP course as early as freshman year. The majority of our AP course offerings will be available to students in their junior and senior year.

AP Scores

AP exams are administered in May, and students may earn college credit depending on their exam score and the college or university they attend. AP Exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. Click here for more information.

AP Course Recommendations Based on Past Test Scores

If a student has taken the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or PSAT 8/9, they can view their online score report to see which AP courses the College Board recommends based on their performance. Click here for more information. 

AP Capstone Diploma Information

Chaparral offers the AP Capstone program, which means students can earn either the AP Capstone Diploma™ or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.

• The AP Capstone Diploma is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing. 
• The AP Seminar and Research Certificate is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.

Chaparral offers more than 20 CTE courses designed to prepare students for success in a wide range of career fields, including Coding, Business, Finance, Photography, Technical Theatre, Sports Medicine, Culinary Arts, Networking and Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, and Engineering.

After completing a CTE pathway, students may participate in an internship program, gaining valuable hands-on, real-world experience. Students also have the flexibility to explore additional CTE programs, such as Nursing and Biotechnology, at other SUSD high schools.

Chaparral partners with EVIT, a Cognia-accredited CTE high school in Mesa, AZ, available to juniors and seniors. Through EVIT, students can spend half of their school day earning credit in more than 40 occupation-specific programs. Most programs prepare students for state or national licensing or certifications and offer internship opportunities and over 300 dual-enrollment college credits. The other half of the student’s day is spent at Chaparral taking academic courses.

Applications for the 2026–2027 school year opened on November 1, 2025. Please visit evit.edu for information on the high school enrollment process.

EVIT Expo

Each year, EVIT hosts its annual EVIT Expo, opening its main campus to prospective students and families. The 2026 EVIT Expo, held on January 31, welcomed more than 4,000 parents/guardians and future students. The event provided an opportunity to explore EVIT’s wide range of programs, speak with instructors and current students, tour the Main campus, and receive enrollment assistance from EVIT counselors.
