Advanced Placement (AP)
What is Advanced Placement (AP)?
The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school. At Chaparral, a student can take their first AP course as early as sophomore year. The majority of our AP course offerings will be available to students in their junior and senior year.
AP Courses and Exams
Click here for more information about AP course content, as well as exam dates. Please keep in mind, this is a link to the College Board's website, so all AP courses listed may not be offered on our specific campus.
About AP Scores
AP Exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. Many U.S. colleges grant credit and/or advanced placement (that means they let you skip the equivalent course once you get to college) for scores of 3 and above. Click here for more information.
AP Course Recommendations Based on Past Test Scores
If you’ve taken the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or PSAT 8/9, you can look at your online score report to see information about which AP courses the College Board thinks you’ll likely do well in. Click here for more information.
AP Capstone Diploma Information
Did you know Chaparral offers the AP Capstone program, which means you can earn either the AP Capstone Diploma™ or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™?
- The AP Capstone Diploma is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing.
- The AP Seminar and Research Certificate is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.
Please refer to the Collge Board's website for more information.
Will my potential future college accept my AP credits?
Your AP scores could earn you college credit or advanced placement (meaning you could skip certain courses in college). Use this tool to find colleges that offer credit or placement for AP scores.
CTE
CTE
SUSD offers a variety of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at our comprehensive high schools. CTE programs focus on technical and professional skills that prepare students for post-secondary education and the workforce. Students have the opportunity to earn industry recognized certifications and dual enrollment credits through our CTE pathways. Pairing robust academics with technical skills is what gives students a competitive advantage in post-secondary and/or industrial environments.
Click here to see more CTE program details.
Additional pathways are available through our partners at EVIT. Please visit their website for more information about their programs.
Dual Enrollment
Overview
The Dual Enrollment (DE) Program was designed to provide an opportunity for qualified high school students to enroll in college courses at high school locations, and to earn high school and college credits, simultaneously. SUSD has established an agreement with Scottsdale Community College (SCC), Arizona State University (ASU), and the University of Arizona (U of A) to offer select courses to students who have been identified as candidates for college-level work. DE may be offered in a variety of courses, but offerings vary from year to year depending on SUSD staff qualifications and SCC/ASU/U of A certification requirements.

Application Information
Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are open as of November 1, 2024. Please see below or visit evit.edu for the high school enrollment process:
When applying online, the following required documents should be requested in advance, as they will need to be uploaded to complete the application process:
• Discipline Record
• Current Unofficial Transcripts - (visit StudentVUE, click on "Course History", then "Unofficial Transcript")
• Proof of Immunizations
*Your counselor will provide your discipline record upon request. Hopefully, you have a copy of your immunizations but if you do not, you can request a copy from our school nurse (Haley Mcmackin hmcmackin@susd.org). Please allow a minimum of 48 hours for processing.
Please note: EVIT has moved to a modified, year-round calendar (Click here to view the 2025-2026 EVIT school year calendar), so dates will not line up with SUSD's schedule, exactly. If you apply and are accepted, your acceptance is not binding – you can change your mind at a later date.
How to get started:
Complete and submit the online application. Parents and/or legal guardians of new students will need an active email account (that is checked regularly) to access and use the online registration system. EVIT prefers personal email. They do not want students using their school email address. The email account provided will be used for important communication updates from the East Valley Institute of Technology.
The EVIT Admissions Office will inform students via e-mail once the application has been approved, or if additional information is required to complete the application.
Students are welcome to contact the Admissions Office with questions or to schedule an appointment with an EVIT counselor. Please call 480-461-4000.
EVIT Expo
Each year, EVIT opens their main campus for their annual EVIT Expo. The EVIT Expo for 2024 was held on January 27th. Over 3,000 parents/guardians and future students attended the event. It's a great chance for students and their families to experience all the great programs EVIT has to offer. Visitors were able to speak with staff and current students about EVIT and their programs on both the Main and Power campus. Tours were given and EVIT counselors were on hand to help with enrollment questions. Click here to watch highlights from 2024.
The 2025 EVIT Expo will be held at EVIT's Main Campus on Saturday, January 25th!
