Meet the Department

Ms. Welch has lived in Arizona for 26 years after growing up in southern California. She attended Northern Arizona University and earned a B.S. in Business Administration, then later in life went on to get her Master of Education in School Counseling from Northern Arizona University. Ms. Welch is married and has two adult children. She enjoys camping, hiking, yoga and spending time with her husband, children, family, and dog. Ms. Welch took time off from work when her children were young and then re-entered the workplace as a school counselor at Marana School District in Tucson. She and her family moved to Scottsdale area in 2011 and Ms. Welch was employed by Scottsdale Prevention Institute for a year before being hired as a school counselor at Arcadia High School and Desert Canyon Middle School. This will be Ms. Welch’s twelfth year at Chaparral.

Ms. Davis is in her eighth year with the district and her sixth year proudly serving Chaparral High School. She began her journey in SUSD at Desert Mountain High School, where she worked as a school counselor for two years before making Chaparral her home.

Originally from the small town of Eldorado in southern Illinois, Ms. Davis graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIU-C) in 2013 with degrees in Biological Science and Secondary Education. She spent three years teaching science at both the middle and high school levels before returning to SIU-C to earn her Master of Education in School Counseling in 2017. She went on to achieve National Board Certification in 2018.

Ms. Davis is passionate about supporting students through every stage of their high school journey, helping them discover their strengths, explore opportunities, and prepare for life beyond graduation.

Ms. Mayer has worked in SUSD for the past 16 years, and it is her 29th year in education. During this time she supported students in K-12^th grade. She grew up in Scottsdale and attended SUSD schools and is an alumnus of Arcadia High School. Her daughters graduated from Chaparral (2023 and 2025) and are currently students at Hamilton College and Creighton University. Ms. Mayer received her BA degree in Communications from University of Colorado, Boulder (1993) and her Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix (2001). She started her educational career as a third-grade teacher in Madison School District. She also studied Spanish at San Jose El Viejo in Antigua, Guatemala.
