Meet the Department

Ms. Welch has been a school counselor at Chaparral High School for 13 years. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a Master’s in School Counseling from Northern Arizona University. A longtime Arizona resident, she enjoys camping, hiking, yoga, and spending time with her family and dog. Her counseling career includes experience in Tucson schools and the Scottsdale Prevention Institute.

Ms. Mayer has 30 years of experience in education, including 17 years with SUSD. A Scottsdale native and Arcadia High School alumna, she earned her B.A. in Communications from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her M.Ed. in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She began her career as a third-grade teacher and has also studied Spanish in Guatemala. Her daughters are Chaparral graduates now attending college.
